Armies of Ull

The Uli are an offshoot of the Paynims who have taken a set region of steppe as their own. Some have even settled down in towns and villages in the hills and on the verges of the mountains, while many further north still hold a semi-nomadic lifestyle. In temperament they are much the same as their nomadic cousins, however, as their fierceness in battle demonstrates.

Much like their cousins, Uli mercenaries are not uncommon. They tend to place themselves into service of the more easterly Baklunish rulers, however, including Zeif, Tusmit, and Ket.

As of CY 578, Ull fields the following forces:

• 25,000 light cavalry

• 18,750 with short bow and scimitar

• 6,250 with lance and mace

• 4,000 light infantry with long bows

• 6,000 medium infantry

• 4,000 with halberds and padded armor

• 2,000 with maces and padded armor

As the Uli warriors are themselves a sub-set of the Paynims, the same Conquest or Crusade-era Bedouin miniatures serve admirably to represent their cavalry on the wargaming table. Uli infantry eschew armor, but figures such as Hundred Years War English, or more generic Western medieval halberdiers would do.
