The Armies of the County of Urnst

The Countess Belissica has a small but tough army at her command. The roughly 2,000 soldiers garrison major strongholds, which are used as the bases for regular patrols along the borders, while in times of crisis as many as 20,000 additional troops can be raised from among the noble contingents within a fortnight. The bulk of County Urnst’s military might comes from its nobles, who also maintain large numbers of castles and fortified settlements, especially along the outer borders of the realm. It should be remembered that Urnst greatly distrusts nearby Nyrond, ever fearful that the kingdom will desire to re-establish its suzerainty over both County and Duchy.

It should be noted that 5,000 of the light, medium, and heavy infantry of the County has been sent eastwards to support the Nyrondese invasion of the Great Kingdom. These are the best troops available, and the vast majority come from the noble contingents, although all wear the livery of Urnst.

French feudal miniatures will serve admirably when depicting Urnstian armies on the table.
