Olman (OLE-man)

Olman is generally used in reference to the Olman people, a race of humans of Oerth. They mainly inhabit the southern fringes of the Flanaess and are primarily a tribal people, though in the past they commanded a great empire.   The modern Olman inhabit the Amedio city-state of Xamaclan (last remaining city-state of the Olman's Amedio empire), and are spread out in isolated tribes throughout the Amedio Jungle. Sparse populations also exist elsewhere.

Description

People of Olman ancestry tend to have reddish-brown to dark brown skin tones, with straight, black hair. Their eyes are always dark, ranging from dark brown to utter black, and their faces tend to feature high cheekbones and high-bridged noses.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

Traditionallly, newborn children are named for their birthdate on the Olman calendar. For instance, a child born on the Serpant 1 would be called CoatlcĂ«, until her seventh birthday when she would recieve a more permanent adult name.   A person's adult name generally denoted a circumstance of their birth or personage. Names were not used to connote ancestry, and children were not named after relatives.   Children were generally considered to be in the service of the god who ruled over the lunar phase in which they were born.
