The Baron of Riverwatch is the father-in-law of Lady Larissa Morrick Beval from Geoff. The baron's son, Byron Beval perished shortly after his wedding to Larissa. Rumors persist that this was due to some strange curse laid upon him by some fell associate of Lord Kyran Eldoran, a long time rival of the Morrick family, at whose estate the young couple were married.

The barony has been thrown somewhat into a state of disarray since the death of the baron's son. The Council of Niole Dra has sent an emissary to assist the baron with affairs within his territory, but the grief-stricken lord has proved impossible to work with. It is said that he has been suffering from bouts of sudden and explosive rage, and only seems to have thoughts of revenge during his few moments of daily lucidity. The crown knows that some action will soon need to be taken so that daily life in this small but important territory along the Sheldomar River is kept on an even keel.

To make matters even worse, the infamous Laughing Bandit, as he has come to be known, has been raiding Riverwatch and the surrounding provinces. Rumor has it he is not human. Some say he is a beast who changes into a vicious wolf on nights of the full moon. Others suggest that he is a demon of some kind or a doppelganger bent on causing fear and unrest in the region.
