Laneshi

Deep beneath the waves lies the Llana-Shi Empire. One of the Elder races, they walk the razors edge of life and death, communing with spririts and unafraid of death. Due to their nature in the sea, Laneshi tend to see life as a series of absolutes. Friend or Foe; Day or Night. This applies also to their caste system.
The mystic caste comprises the laneshi born as twins, which is quite common. The first born is inducted into the mystic class, and the other twin is consecrated to be a spirit guide, binding the souls together. The mystics are in charge of things with no life; funeral rites, crafting, recordkeeping, etc. The second caste is the warriors in charge of life; ruling, farming, warfare, etc. They are double the size of the mystic caste and are a strict meritocracy. They are constantly at war with their neighbors, and have recently turned their eyes towards the surface for unknown reasons.
