The Ravencourt Sanctuary

Miles from the Raevan shore, a permanent blanket of fog called the Mistwall obscures the horizon. This defends the Ravencourt Sanctuary. Little is known about the Sanctuary itself and the mages who return will not discuss it. All that historians have gleaned is that the Sanctuary is an Acadamy and haven for mages, filled with tomes, spellbooks, and laboratories.
Until now, none have been able to uncover the secrets of the Sanctuary. Every seven years, a boat comes through the Mistwall bearing graduates and bringing a list of names of those deemed worthy. Those who attempt to pass the Mistwall wind up hopelessly lost, and if they can't find their way out they are beset by monsters. The sheer number of broken ships that wash up at the Dire Shore is a testament to the dangers of the Mistwall.
