Saur'Valekimae are haka'a'manem with DragonPotential who have not yet bonded with a dragon (primarily children, though some may never bond and there is one notable exceptionof a Saur'Valekimae who did not technically bond with her dragon until she was in her fourth eight.) Most of the Saur'Valekimae who will bond with a dragon do so before the age of twelve.
Signs that Saur'Valekimae are ready to bond include, but may not be limited to:
Unexplained Dizziness
These bouts of dizziness are actually intended to prepare the Saur’Valekimae for the sensations of flying with their Dragon — giving them the chance to master their balance for flying (whether in actuality or astrally) without actually leaving the ground, but without the proper preparation, recognition or training, this can actually be dangerous.
Flying Dreams
Like the dizziness, the dreams are intended to prepare the Saur’Valekimae for flight.
Bond Fever
An unexplained and unusually high fever, which generally occurs at the point at which the Saur’Valekimae are ready to Bond. It is actually an excess buildup of Wild energy in the firelines intended to make the Bonding process less exhausting to the Saur’Valekimae and is the final stage of preparation for Bonding which the Saur’Khurandra watch for in the Saur’Valekimae. Wild Fever is identified by a dragon-shaped rash behind the left ear which the Bonding resolves into an almost tattoo like scar of a dragon in flight.
Power Surges
This is almost poltergeist-like activity surrounding the Saur’Valeka, particularly when they are experiencing high emotion. Accidental fire-starting is possible, but not as common as unexplained bursts of strength or speed, gusts of wind or dust devils.
Side-Slipping
This is uncontrolled, unintended transition into and out of OtherSpace. Others may witness this as a “blinking out” where the Saur’Valekimae briefly seem to vanish, or as a kind of teleportation where the Saur’Valekimae disappear then reappear some distance from their previous position. The Saur’Valekimae may experience this as if nothing unusual has happened because they slide into and then out of OtherSpace without realizing it or they may realize that they have “gone elsewhere” momentarily and be extremely disoriented.
Bond Dreaming
This is a form of accidental intrusion upon the potential BondMate’s experience whereby either Dragons or Saur’Valekimae may “dream” what their BondMate is actually experiencing, consequently experiencing it with them. This can occur both before and after Bonding and may eventually be cultivated consciously as a form of communication and shared understanding, but is most often unintentional pre-Bonding or early on after Bonding.
Saur'Valekimae are found most often among the nomadic haka'a'manem of Del'Retha'an, the Haka'am to the north of Araela'a. Ironically, (and rather foolishly) they are considered by many to be more of a myth than the Saur'Guarda (Dragon Guard or Dragon Warriors) or the Saur'Khurandrimae (Dragon Priests/Healers) they become once DragonBonded and properly trained. Very few Araela'ans realize that the nomadic peoples found in areas of the Borderlands, Horse Valley, and High Plains are predominantly of Saur'Valekimae lineage whose relationship to the dragon mountain ranges to the north and southwest edges of Araela'a precedes Araela'a Haka'am itself.
