Grippli Crystalmogrification
A community of frogkin humanoids called grippli has grown up around a magical crystal grotto. They call the main crystal node in the grotto the Mother Shard because it once aided them in many ways. They found it to be healing and invigorating. However, since the return of the Hollow King, the Mother Shard has become warped, infecting the grippli with a horrible condition.
Transmission & Vectors
Merely living in the vicinity of the grotto causes crystal tumors to grow on one's skin. They are harmless, except for causing minor irritation and itching. However, in time they can spread to cover the entire person. This basically solidifies them into a crystal coccoon. They are not dead, merely in some form of hibernation. No one knows what happens next.
Drawing closer to the Mother Shard has more deleterious effects. Crystal nodes spout out sprays of tiny crystals like clouds of glitter. Anyone within 30 ft., must make a DC 15 CON saving throw or receive one level of infection as crystals attach to the skin of one area of the body and quickly repopulate to crystallize the entire adjacent limb. This causes no pain, but the limb becomes immobile. A second level of infection will strike another limb.
Roll a d4: 1.) right arm; 2.) left arm; 3.) right leg; and 4.) left leg.
On the third level of infection, the crystal condition has become so severe that the whole body crystalizes. The following round, the crystal cocoon bursts apart to reveal that the character has been transformed into a grippli. Character stats change accordingly. Gear is unharmed and has been resized appropriately for the new body.
Treatment
Destruction of the shard nodes remove the effect. The crystal pieces flake off, leaving faint scarring that fades in a day or two.
If the node is not destroyed, ongoing effects can be removed with a lesser restoration spell.
Full transmogrification into a grippli can be removed with a greater restoration spell.
