The Shattered Blade
Structure
The guildmaster holds most of the power in the guild, and is advised by the bookeeper, and the Hand. As the leader of the guild, they direct the actions and intentions of the guild in accordance with their personal goals. The bookeeper is in charge of managing the guild treasury, and also tracks all the guild's debts and dues. The Hand is the knife in the shadows that collects information for the guildmaser, and executes his will directly. All other members of the guild are thieves, informants, or diplomats.
Culture
The Shattered Blade is after one thing: PROFIT. All of it's actions revolve around moving money towards it's members, usually by taking it from unsuspecting victims. Members of the guild often join because of debts, or just because the thieve's guild pays better than most lawful establishments. The guild itself is rife with distrust and betrayal, with many secret factions all conspiring to their own ends (usually money.) If you see the world as a coinpurse ready to be snagged then this guild is your calling, and so long as you are reliable (or seemingly so) you'll benefit from membership. Thieves often offer eachother advice, and exchange stories after long days of swindling the gullible, but when the fat hits the pan they choose themselves over their comrades. "It's just buisness."
Assets
The Shattered Blade has guildhouses all across Gundria. Any major city probably has one, and the guild also keeps informants and thieves in most small towns. As an organization dedicated to accrueing wealth, The Shattered Blade has a large treasury. It's wealth flows in and is used to equip and pay it's members, and provide them with specialized services. The guild owns many properties and has enough tools of the trade stashed in caches around the world to equip a whole country. Many companies and people have debts to the guild, some of which are repaid through services. The guild uses these services to arrange larger scale projects and further expand their reach.
History
The guild systematically removes all historical records that pertain to it. When guildmasters are removed their names are erased and none of their accomplishments are recorded. The only reliable and preserved record is the Book of Debt, the tome in which the bookeeper tracks all the debts ever promised to the guild. The dates in this tome go back into the Era of Stagnation, but the earliest pages are damaged beyond legibility.
