Inspection Day

Octus maintains that Gyllis is not a death sentence for the people who are sent there. Instead, it is meant to provide an area for those who do not fit in with the “proper culture” of Octus and the other domes. As a precautionary measure to ensure that things in Gyllis are still functioning and livable in one way or another, a committee of twelve members from the government of Octus travels to Gyllis and investigates the state of the dome once every year.
Inspection Day is an unannounced event, only alerted by the presence of a submarine at the airlock. During Inspection Day, the Octonian Inspection Committee tours Gyllis and takes notes on the architecture, their way of life, food supplies, what sort of recovery processes are going on, and any developments that have spawned among other things. Each inspection day concludes with the Octonian Inspection Committee hosting and interview with the Committee Committee to investigate how they are managing the dome and if anything needs to be done, such as replacement of members.
While the Committee Committee and the Octonian Inspection Committee take the inspection Day very seriously, the citizens of Gyllis have a different attitude. During Inspection Days, all the usual activities in their day come to a halt and it is treated as a holiday. They celebrate this holiday by following around the Octonian Inspection Committee and forming a new Committee for that day, the Gyllisi Inspection Committee, whose only purpose is to inspect the inspection committee. They similarly take notes, not on the progress of Gyllis, but on the progress of the inspection and the Octonian Inspection Committee’s activities throughout Gyllis.
