Halpara Mushroms
Most mushrooms like caves a little bit- thriving when artificially introduced but otherwise unable to derive nutrients from the barren stone. Halpara mushrooms are not most mushrooms. Halpara mushrooms are bioluminescent, edible mushrooms that were given by Halcyon as a gift to the Kima Cities in the ancient Divine Era to grow in caves.
Halpara mushrooms pave the way for lesser mushrooms. They are partial lithovores, able to extract energy from the barren stone of deep caverns and transform lifeless caves into bustling ecosystems. They are the meaty vanguard of subterranean expansion and a food staple for Kima life.
For the most part, Halpara mushrooms have remained underground, as forest mushrooms can outcompete them on the surface and some cultures go so far as to destroy them as agents of Kima-city culture. They have also made a decent living expanding along rocky mountain slopes.
Dryads exposed to Halpara mushroom spores over a long period of time physically transform into fungal Cave Dryads that are better adapted to lightless conditions. Cave dryads sustain Halpara mushrooms on their very body, spreading their spores further and relying on the mushrooms attached to them for increased food processing.
