The Contract

In the broken land of the Kingdom of Arvarun, three wanderers found each other: Iteko the barbarian, Kota the bard, and Luvina the warlock. Together, they found the vision and know-how to chart a shared path and dream: to get rich in the city of Asalay. For six months, they fought together raising money and making plans. And, when the right selkie ship sailed by, they went for it.    After a long period of travel down from Stildane to Ukaram, the adventurer's ship was attacked by Stildanian pirates (themselves far from home). The adventurers won the battle, and won the favor of the ship's captain - Captain Tavani. Tavani informed the ignorant adventurers that Asalay was an unkind place to those seeking glory without already having gold - and that he had a job that could help them be better prepared to pursue their dream. If they spent a year defending a selkie outpost, they could make the money they need to make it big in the city of Gold.

Introductions

The ship docked at the outpost of Pekisa, on the tropical coastline of Northern Ukaram, and the adventurers went together into the fort there to make their deal. The Overseer of the fort, a druid named Arimai, took well to their shenanigans. The team took a team name - The Weekend - and made their pact with Arimai to defend this outpost for a year. But first, the Weekend would need to prove their mettle by finishing off the stranded pirate ship that had attacked them a few days ago.    The evening after the meeting, Luvina went straight to sleep, Kota reached out to the common soldiery at the bar and made some friends, and Hara tried to find a fight and couldn't.   The next day, the Weekend assembled and began planning. They would don disguises, they decided, and would infiltrate the pirate ship as survivors of the attack. Hara would be invisible as The Cackler (a malevolent spirit?), Luvina would go as Weeping Wilmena (a cursed and sad woman), and Kota would go as Ulrik Sixfinger (a sad and troubled mercenary). Mid-planning, they met the Hatakoa, their assigned scout and second-in-command here. Together, they set off to find the beached ship.

The Ship Fight

The crew advanced on the ship, and noticed a shimmering cloud of flies covering the vessel. The ship's crew had been zombified, and were trapped in a pantomime of ship maintenance while the flies multiplied from their corpses. Stildanian pirates seem to have brought uniquely Stildanian problems along with them. The Weekend considered sliding into the middle of the ship to loot and scout through the holes in the ship's hull, but ultimately decided to focus on the top deck first. Luvina sent her familiar up to scout, and it was immediately killed by the reanimated "Captain" of the ship on the top deck - giving the team a view of the deck and a new grudge against this captain.    Two of the warriors on the top deck seemed to have turned into Wights - more articulate and dangerous creatures distinct from the common zombies. One was the Captain, the other was acting as a first mate. Luvina made Hara invisible, and sent him to prepare a route onto the top deck; Hara's kobold climbing let him scamper up and tie a rope for the other two to climb up. Then, Hara positioned himself on one end of the ship (where the crew-zombies and First Mate were) while Kota and Luvina prepared to attack the captain two-on-one.    Hara immediately was swarmed by the four zombies and wight on the main deck, and fought valiantly keeping the swarm at bay. Meanwhile, Kota and Luvina began blasting the captain apart. Luvina's shadow-blade, combined with bardic inspiration and defense, made short work of the Captain - but Hara was still having to face down significant odds. Nonetheless, the barbarian held his ground and accidentally summoned a chaos spirit to blast apart the zombie's fly-based defenses. The bard and warlock leapt to Hara's aid, and once the entire team was fighting together, the undead dropped like flies.    The team set about looting the captain's quarters for 120 gold, jewelry from Hainish House Neshelna, and a monster-teeth bow; they also grabbed more gunpowder from the armory. Rather than fight swarms more zombies in the lower decks, the team simply locked all the exits and called for the townsfolk to burn the ship. The Weekend's Job was done. The townsfolk burned the ship, the druid Overseer summoned birds to eat the Mutated Flies, and the adventurers headed back to the outpost having proven themselves.

Relations

Protagonists

Hara/Iteko: A Kivish Kobold wild magic barbarian from Stildane. Seeking violence in the dream that is life, Iteko is unusually detached from consequences and traditional morality. Often denied the glorious battle they seek. A brown-furred Kobold with one broken horn and one scarred eye, as well as a cut-up tail; they carry a magical weapon.   Luvina:Half Prism Warlock devoted to the Elder Leviathan known as Tideweaver, hailing from Keveket lands. Proud and somewhat un-self-aware, Luvina is more posture than actual know-how, but her vision gives the team direction. She is, of course, a powerful caster and capable negotiator. Copper eyes and copper mineral swirls across her body, with a dull gleam about her. Luvina also has a familiar named Kessu - that looks like an eldritch, messed up Flowyrm    Kota: A Half-Dryad Lore Bard from the Sunekan Republic of Zitepec. A former coyote (a kind of exile in the Western Suneka, bound to landlords as criminal agents and union-busters) who has sought a better life abroad. Very much a drifter. Uses paint for his magic, and enjoys painting butterflies on his gear. Has a pink-white flower, black hair.

Allies

Captain Tavani: The selkie captain that brought us here, will be outta here soon   Overseer Arimai: The selkie overseer who runs the town of Pekisa. Checkboard woman: She does the reports   Dora: Random dryad in the bar, gun   Zilimen: Ex-Asalay soldier at the bar
