Aure'ellar
We keep our eyes on the stars, waiting for the others to follow. We keep faith that someday we will be united again. Until then, we watch and we dream. We were cast adrift in the stars. Little is remembered of where we came from or why we were cast out. The elders tell of a land under threat from some great, unknown shadow. Something or someone that would bring doom to us all. In a search for answers we opened a gate. Perhaps that was our first mistake. The Sleeper, our elders say, directed us to build here, to search for answers, and to watch the stars for others to follow. And should the desperate need arise, we were told to wake Him. So we built, preparing for our kin who should have followed us. They never came. We created beautiful cities of crystal and silver, bent the trees at their roots, and created living towers that bloomed in the spring. We crafted weapons and armor of the finest quality and traded with the odd humans who eventually settled our islands. It was not the future we were promised nor one we had imagined, but for generations we were content. When the Turmoil broke the lands and our towers were washed into the seas, we turned to the humans we had traded with for centuries. Instead of aid, they offered shackles. Most of us were forced into ghettos and made to serve. We were forced to work in the shadows of our ruined towers, but still, we did not wake the Sleeper. Hundreds of years passed, we rebuilt our numbers and quietly plotted our escape. Secret parties of Aure wove their way through the misty jaws of the Maw, across the sea to Gehnnia. They made their way to the capital of that empire and pled for aid. Thankfully, Emperor Elnur Parvin answered. It would be decades before all of us were free. The final liberation came at the hands of the Empress's Arrows, they broke through the ruins of the first temple and brought back the crystal sarcophagus of the Sleeper to Gehnnia's shores. Now he rests beneath the new Star Temple in our new home. Still, we watch the stars and we wait.
Aure
The Aure'ellar are tall and lithe. By the accounts of most humans who meet them, they are eerie and unsettling. Their skin is ashen, often grey or tinted blue, sometimes with glimmering markings like white stars. Most often, their hair is white or silver, their eyes gold, silver, or dark blue with stars and swirling galaxies. The Aure'ellar are well known for their fine craftsmanship which extends to everything from the tallest spire to the smallest starry button. The high courts of Gehnnia pay well for Aure-crafted clothing, jewelry, and luxury goods. Star-forged weapons and armor, as well, are highly sought after in many places of the world. The Sleeper
He is said to be the first, or at least one of the most ancient, of the Aure'ellar race. He commands power over the stars, the elements, and magic beyond imagining. Some liken him to a god, though he is adamant he is no such thing. The immense power of the Sleeper is unpredictable when it interacts with the magic of this world, however. So he went into a deep sleep, sealed in a crystal sarcophagus. The Aure'ellar were given strict orders that they should not wake him unless they were sure it was necessary. So still he sleeps, for now.Aure'ellar
