Halodar
Seventh of Shesti, Third Age 2783
Halodar is a land of gods, magic, and ancient history. Countless civilizations have existed across its history and landmasses. Some of them great shining beacons of good and others merciless doers of evil. It is ruled over by a pantheon of Gods that, while real, take little notice of, and participate little in, the affairs of the mortals that inhabit the world.
In the First Era, known colloquially as the Era of Ancient Power, the world was dominated chiefly by devastating magical conflicts. These conflicts, collectively, came to be known as the Lightning Wars. This lead to a deep mistrust of magic users among most people in Halodar that persists to the current day. Magic has significantly weakened since those days where wizards could move mountains and rearrange the land with their powerful magics. First Era artifacts are rare, but do still exist and are terrifyingly powerful.
In the Second Era, known as the Era of Mortal Men, the first true nations began to emerge and nearly immediately began a series of centuries long conflicts that saw the rise and fall of numerous empires, kingdoms, republics, and principalities. The constant warfare lead to large numbers of refugees fleeing across continents to try and escape the various conflicts. Races and peoples that previously had been isolated now mixed freely united by the flight from their homelands. As a result, many nations today are cosmopolitan and have at least a nominal amount of contact with different races and cultures.
The world is now in the Third Era. In this era, the world has been dominated largely by racial conflict between what are perceived as the "wild" races and the more "civilized" city dwellers. While conflicts among members of the same race are not uncommon, they usually do not expand beyond local conflicts. Racial tensions, however, have remained high with the most recent, notable example being the invasion of "wild races" from the as yet untamed wilderness of the far northern portion of Halodar's most populous continent known as Aelliver. The conflict was ended roughly 100 years ago by a unified alliance of "civilized" southern races who defeated the vast armies of wild races after nearly a decade of constant war.
The frontier is still a tense area, but the past century has dimmed the memories of people regarding the conflict and new settlers are flooding in hoping to exploit the resources of the wealthy, virgin lands of the North.
