Ayrium

Ayrium is a soft, shiny pale purple metal that exhibits remarkable anti-gravitational properties. It has a natural luminescence, though dim, that enhances its otherworldly allure. It is used in several compounds that aid in the processing and maniuplation of raw quintessence. Aryiglass, glass reinforced with Ayrium, is highly valued for its quintessence containing properties but also as a symbol of wealth in some societies. Aryiglass is nearly transluscent with a faint iridescent quality. In addition, its anti-gravitational properties are used to creating various machines and vehicles.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Ayrium is a shiny metal that has a natural faint luminescence. However, it's reaction with moisture in the air tarnishes it quickly, often leaving it a greyish-brown.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Ayrium exhibits remarkable anti-gravitational properties. It will accelerate as if gravity were reversed on it often pulling rock and rubble with it. Within minutes though, moisture in the air reacts with the metal and nullfies this anti-gravitational effect.

Compounds

The most common use for unreacted Ayrium is melting with glass where it acts as a chemical strengthener to create Aryiglass, one of few known substances that can contain quintessence. Though not fully understood, it seems gravitational forces can act on and manipulate quintessence.

Geology & Geography

Due to its rapid reaction in the presence of moisture, Ayrium is always found as a compound in nature. None of the naturally occuring compounds retain any of its anti-gravitational properties.   The most common compound to find Ayrium in is Sharpstone, a variety of quartz, from which it can be melted out of the compound. Sharpstone is found nearly everywhere in mines across Halor. However, the best specimens for extracting Ayrium are concentrated in the regions of lowlands of Southern Thrail

Origin & Source

Given its strange powers, Ayrium is theorized to be from some other world.

Life & Expiration

The strength of the anti-gravity is always the same regardless of the size of the Ayrium. As it increases in height the rate of acceleration slows until it reaches 0 at complete reaction. The duration of the reaciton seems to be related to the surface area expoxed, with less surface area leading to a longer reaction. It is not possible to stop a reaction half way.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Ayrium is highly sought after, but only a few nations have developed efficient processing mechinisms to extract from Sharpstone.

Storage

Ayrium is most often stored in completely sealed containers and submerged in oil to prevent premature reaction.
