Heralds unedited backstory
Herald never felt comfortable in his step father’s home. After his father died, when he was four, and his mother remarried to one of the most powerful men in the northern paxitary tribe, Herald was alone a lot of the time. His mother did her best to make him feel included and part of the family but His step dad chose to keep him separate and when his three step siblings started to be born the favoritism became even more apparent.
Once he was old enough though things in the Blunttooth family home started to become strange. He would notice all kinds of people entering the home in secret in the middle of the night. Strange items and stacks of gold would appear and disappear around the vast home Herald had called home for most of his life. Soon after he started to noitice things he started getting trained in the real way of the family Blunttooth on the surface they were the leading family in trade for the northern paxitary. But being the leader in trade means that there is always someone who wants something and who is willing to pay a lot of money to acquire said objects regardless of legality.
Herald was taught to steal lie and cheat so he could fit in with the family that had taken him in, and while at the few important functions the family decided to bring him too, his function was to get information out of the children his step father was in competition with. After a few failed robberies and panic attacks on the part of Herald it was advised upon him that meditation would be a good way to manage the anxiety brought on by the expectations of his family.
With that Herald around the age of 18 started spending more time with Reiss Zepherr who taught him how to focus and quiet his mind. A skill herald often forgets to use but has grown rather good at when he remembers to do it. From there Reiss taught Herald how to fight and defend himself and others when necessary.
Herald spent the next few years spending as much time as he could training with the Zepherr family and as much time away from his family as he could. Until of course the chiefs daughter ran away. There is no way she could have known this but the important families went into a sort lock down after she left. All potential heirs were carefully kept track of. Of course this wasn’t true in all the families but a lot of them took it very seriously. No one took it more seriously than Ohmeer. For years Herald was kept under observation unable to return to his allies within the Zepherr family. He trained his mind in secret His step father unaware of any work he had done outside of the family.
After years of being kept like a lap dog by his StepFather Herald reached a breaking point. A marriage was arranged by his stepfather, an arrangement that breaks all known customs and rules of the paxitary. Margaret Thackeray is one of the most wealthy woman that live in the root lands. She is lucky enough to call the Capitol her home and she holds the ear of all the important people in the city. She is an excellent contact for Heralds father, she can get him into many social circles that Ohmeer was banned from previously, and all it would cost him was a son he didn’t even care for.
What Ohmeer never expected was that as soon as Herald was out of sight of his stepfather he started planning. He researched every possible way he could get out of this horrible marriage and in the end only came up with one plan and it involved a lot of luck and a speedy exit from the Capitol.
All it took was a misplaced bag and for Herold to wander back on the ship just before it set out toward Cern. The journey had been a long one and his guards were tired and didn’t notice until it was to late. For the first time in his life Herald is free and ready to start exploring the world around him.
