Freeman
Freeman is not a noble title. Freeman are similar in status to peasants. Like peasants, they must pay rent for the space they occupy. But the rent is usually paid in cash, not goods. Whereas the peasant's rent agreement is perpetual, often lasting generations, the freeman's lease has a term, often renewed annually.
Freemen are typically craftsmen who live in towns. A blacksmith is a typical example of freeman.
