Lilyheart the Wicked Myth in Hastened Delight | World Anvil

Lilyheart the Wicked

Ever since the mysterious disappearing of Dr. William Lilyheart and the subsequent kidnappings of various individuals in Penchester, many rumors and stories about Dr. Lilyheart have begun to circle, but were but a trickle in a stream of gossip.
After the appearance of Lilyheart's First Letter however, the press ran wild over the tale, reporting of all sorts of heinous acts he had supposedly committed.

Summary

The name of Lilyheart has become a modern and much more believable version of the bogeyman, used to frighten children across Penchester into behaving.
It is told he hunts the streets at night for his next victim in the dark alleys of the slums, but often pays visits to the rich, taking the fat and idle with him.
He is said to wear a long black cloak, a mask that allows him to look like any person he wishes to look like and a prosthetic finger of his left ring finger, the mask being to hide his identity and the finger to hide the wound left from cutting it off after having lost his wife to a grave illness.
What happens to the victims is but a mystery, but it is said if one listens closely on a foggy night, one may hear the faint click of his prosthetic finger falling upon the cobbled streets and the sweeping of his cloak as he bends to pick it up.

Historical Basis

It has been confirmed that Dr. Lilyheart has been missing for quite some time and that more kidnappings have occured in recent history then is deemed usual.
Dr. Lilyheart was indeed a widower, though the rumored loss of his finger has not been recorded, with former colleagues confirming he had all fingers until he was last seen.
The Cosmopolitan Constabulary has found numerous prosthetic fingers while on patrol, though since they differ widely it has been presumed they are the work of pranksters.
Occasionally a highly detailed mask is found, the dimensions and craftsmanship suggesting they are from the same maker. It is notable that the outer surface of the mask is made of human skin and has been expertly made to represent an anatomically correct face, although the faces seem entirely of original design. It must be noted, however, that the masks have no apparent connection with the kidnappings.
The signature on the victim letters are authentic, though it is not clear what the association between Dr. Lilyheart and the victims is.
He has been categorised a Class 0 Offender due to this association, although his whereabouts is entirely unknown.

Spread

It is a phenomenon concentrated in Penchester, though towns and villages on the outskirts may have heard of him and tell uncannily similar stories.

Variations & Mutation

There are strong deviations as to who he takes and why he takes them.
