An Introduction to the Wythian Codex

Welcome to the vast and bountiful continent of Wythe, centre of the known world

Greetings! My name is Sigmund Octavius Beck, and on behalf of the University of Acton I would like to welcome all, be you esteemed scholar or literate vagabond, to the Wythian Codex. Countless years in the making, this Codex is the result of a lifetime of scholarship on behalf of the author, and at the risk of attracting accusations of vanity, should be treated as the foremost authority on all matters of an academic or otherwise scholarly nature.

Long have I pondered as to how this most salient manuscript ought to be introduced; indeed, had I made my work accessible the moment my quill left the page for the final time, perhaps it would have reached the eyes of you, dear reader, before the meteoric rise of the now-famous Argent Company required the author to return to this manuscript with many a substantial revision. As Chief Archivist to the aforementioned venerable institution, I have spent many a sleepless night poring over tomes of a similar nature and scope to this Codex, written by the best and brightest scholarly minds of centuries past. Many of these great men sought to properly introduce their completed work with much vigor and bravado, filling many a page with items such as praise for other contributing authors, acknowledgement of their own potential errors and biases, and endless (and believe me, dear reader, I do mean endless) pages of footnotes and other such trivial citations.

I, on the other hand, have a most potent advantage over these scholars of days past: finding myself in the present day and age. As such, I have been fortunate enough to have read these prior works and, again at the risk of being labelled a braggart of the highest order, find these manuscripts to be terrible dry and horribly verbose. As such, I have made the decision to do away with this proverbial clutter and introduce to you this Codex in a concise and comprehendible fashion.

This Codex is a living manuscript, never to be considered complete. As such, the reader may stumble upon incomplete entries, contradictory theories and statements, or other such gaps in the literature. I encourage the reader to return to this manuscript periodically, as new information is researched and documented.

A Concise Breviary of the Known World

The celestial orb of Heimaalin, upon which all peoples reside, consists primarily of two boundless lands, those being Wythe and Lagona.
