Forridel
For centuries, the men of the Autumnvale have enjoyed the companionship of a species of woodland hawk called a Forridel. The exact date of the domestication of this bird is unknown, but Achiad scholars claim it occurred deep within their own past. They bear the same brilliant amber eyes which Svarcliste possessed, and combined with their intelligence and ability to form close bonds with men, this has led sages to claim that they are also servants of the gods. Forridels possess magical properties, and are able to communicate with those to whom they are bonded using a form of telepathy where images, locations, sensations, and general ideas are conveyed.
They are valuable hunting companions to both yeoman and noble, able to pick out prey with pinpoint accuracy while darting through the forests. Forridels are able to snatch up smaller prey and return it to their masters, or spot larger game and communicate its location through distinctive calls. Due to their superb navigational abilities and ability to recognize individuals, the birds have also seen extensive use as messengers, especially in parts of the Autumnvale with thick vegetation and few roads. This ability for rapid communication has also been a great advantage to the forces of the Fiefdom in times of war, especially as Forridels can recognize, evade, and even resist those to whom their messages are not directed. The famed Cranwich Rangers also take this bird as their sigil, with a brooch of a diving Forridel clasping their cloaks.
