Fyscwyne

The Fiscwyne is a specialised craft developed in the Autumnvale for transporting goods and passengers along the myriad of rivers which are the region’s lifeblood. The vessels feature one or more masts with lugsails as well as oarlocks, although it is not an uncommon practice for rivermen to pole them along stretches of river with treacherous currents. They are sturdily built, with carvel planking ensuring that damaged timbers can be easily replaced; shooting rapids is commonly a preferable alternative than an overland portage through the Autumnvale’s densely-forested terrain. Depending on a vessel’s size and intended use, Fiscwyne may have partial or full decks and occasionally watertight holds. The crew of smaller, open vessels, when transporting cargo over rapids, often stretch oilskins across it in place of decking. In riverine combat during the ongoing war with Bergeaux, Fiscwyne are used similarly to Longships or Galleys elsewhere, employing companies of longbowmen and grappling hooks while maneuvering swiftly under oar or sail.
