Jangól Chawl
The Jangól Chawl (Imperial Wythian: Warriors of the Sea) are one of the four Azarian military branches alongside the Azarian Army, Navy, and the Bádshahpáni (Imperial Wythian: King's Watchmen). Their ranks are taken from the Azarian Army and Navy, hand picked for prowess in battle and skill. The warriors paint themselves in a white and blue dye all over their bodies, sometimes depicting a story, their houses sigil, or a symbol they hold significant.
History
Followers of their warrior goddess Khâleh, the Jangól Chawl are traditionally a raiding force, given autonomy to attack ships, villages, and sometimes cities at their own discretion. While this makes them a ferocious weapon wielded by the rulers of Barazar, if they are not careful the Jangól Chawl have in the past been known to become almost as starving savage animals in need of a kill. Stories tell of a time where a King of Barazar was perceived as weak and unfit, so the Jangól Chawl attempted a coup to overthrow him. While the coup failed, it did send a message to future rulers that the Jangól Chawl must be kept on a short leash. The Jangól Chawl gained notoriety during the Wythian-Lagonan War when they were unleashed upon the Wythian Empire. Some stories tell of them raiding as far as Sinopa and Teoti Itza, but these have not been confirmed, and were more than likely bandits and other pirates who capitalized on the chaos of the war. After the war, the Jangól Chawl fled from Barazar, and were declared outlaws and criminals by the Wythian Empire with a high bounty for their capture or demise. During this time they raided any coastal settlements they could find that did not have proper defenses, and took what they needed. Since they no longer had a proper dockyard to repair their ships, they relied on stealing other vessels wherever they could. During these times they numbers began to dwindle and some thought they had merely ceased to exist, fading from memory into myth.Present Day
The details concerning how King Ham'Bal managed to find and bring the long lost Jangól Chawl under his control are incomplete, but rumors state he bested their leaders in combat to secure their loyalty, and declare that he was as strong as the Azarian kings of old, enough to keep them in check. Whatever the case may be, what is clear is that the Jangól Chawl's numbers have swelled, and under King Ham'Bal they have begun raiding as far as the Southern edge of Tel-Raiq, testing the limit and strength of the former Wythian Empires provinces.Command Structure
Each ship is commanded by a Jang Nèhoda (Imperial Wythina: War Captain) who is part of a squadron of five other ships led by a Jang Yal (Imperial Wythian: War Hero/Champion). The Jang Yals are grouped into a convoy of ten other ships led by a Zerdhong Sálar (Imperial Wythian: Raid Commander) and all Zerdhong Sálar's are under the command of the Daryásálar (Imperial Wythian: Admiral) a title usually held by the King of Barazar.Composition
