Scimitar Cat

A Giant's best friend

The Scimitar Cat, also known as the Saif-Toothed Lion, Lagonan Tiger, or Jinomba (Imperial Wythian: Long-toothed) is a breed of large felines native to the endless plains east of Bergeaux and Guarda Lagona. While feral specimens can still be found in certain regions (particularly the eastern reaches of Khwarrakh), the cats have largely been domesticated by the mysterious Southern Giants that have inhabited the plains for eons.

Appearance

Scimitar Cats have muscular bodies with strong forelimbs, a large head supported by a powerful neck, and a short tail. The elongated fangs from whence the cats derive their name are prominently visible even when the mouth is closed, and are said to be razor sharp.

Their coats are thick and coarse, and are highly prized by Lagonan aristocrats as a symbol of wealth and prestige. Both male and female cats are born sporting a plain-colored coat that gradually develops a spotted pattern as they mature.

Scimitar Cats possess low, rumbling growls, and piercing screams that were once thought by the ancient men of Bergeaux to be the anguished wails of demons.

Behavior

Scimitar Cats are fearsome yet exceedingly intelligent predators, renowned across the east for their fury and cunning. They are highly social creatures, with feral cats banding together in family groups to claim vast home ranges. It is said that Scimitar Cats can pick up a man's scent from nearly 20 leagues away, although this claim is most likely due to the beast's tight-knit connection to the Giants, whom this ability is oft falsely-attributed as well.

As mentioned above, the vast majority of Scimitar Cats have been domesticated by the Giants of the eastern plains, just as man tamed the feral hounds of antiquity to serve as our loyal companions. Based on the limited observations of...
