Emeric

Auda's gaze falls to the deck of the ship, a look of sorrow marring her features.   "He was among the first to answer the call, I'm told. He was changed, but the strength of his spirit shone through, and he did not fall to the zealotry of the others. It is only by his strength that the Mudborn survived. Emeric saved a number of us once he had realized what was happening, refusing to convert any of us like all the others did."   A stream of tears flows down her face now.   "His survival was... surprising. I was sure Guðr would kill him when he arrived, but he never made a move. And then, the attack."   She let's out a mournful cry, her wail echoing off the bluffs and resounding through the canyon. The Mon'toskur turn and look back for a moment but continue rowing, though they fall silent, their song stopping short. Auda tears at her hair, her hat knocked aside, and you see rage on her face now.   "He fell to defend cowards and murderers. He should not have gone to them during the attack. His loss is the loss of an ancient, and all Miðgarr is lesser for it."   ~ a passage from a conversation between Auda and Sindri.
Emeric was a venerable dverge, having lived since the Time of Darkness began to some decades after its conclusion. He fought in the war and lived to tell the tales, though he instead chose to keep to himself. In the incident which freed Sindri from her mental slavery, Emeric lost his arm, a wound he carried with him to the end of his life. In the attack on Hardhaven, Emeric lost his life trying to defend the city from Merkhal as he rampaged through it. However, Vela believes that Emeric's soul now resides within the Freedom's Gale, Sindri's pride longship, lending it unnatural agility and speed. Wind flows ever in the ship's sails as Emeric's spirit carries them aloft.
