Jomsvikingr is an ancient Verlik word - translated literally, it means “roaming warrior” - to the people of Hardhaven however, the word has come to mean much more than that.
Shortly after the founding of Hardhaven, Guthr arrived with a large contingent of dverge warriors and pledged to defend the city. When he saw how insulated they were, shut off from the outside world high in the tree tops - thanks to the Architect - he immediately formed two groups - a city guard, and the Jomsvikingr, tasked with venturing out into the dangerous world of Mithgarr.
In time, all the Jomsvikingr were skilled veterans - foundlings didn’t last long in the field if they weren’t worth their salt. This came at a heavy toll - by the time the Champions of Hardhaven came to be, the Jomsvikingr were a shadow of their former selves, many old and decrepit, with recruitment at an all time low. Only Svali and a few others had any real stake left in the Jomsvikingr when Guthr died, and Svali easily stepped into the position when he was killed by Moz. Under her guidance, with the help of Yngnjl, the Jomsvikingr are starting to blossom once again. Trade has begun to grace the city once more, and more and more residents sign up to join the Jomsvikingr every day.
Since Guthr’s fall, the guard has fallen apart, and many dverge fled the city back to a fort, disagreeing with the leadership direction the city was taking when Svali stepped into power. Without their presence, maintaining the guard was impossible, so now the Jomsvikingr also perform many policing and patrolling duties within and out of the city.
