Iliokatos Latreia
Said to be one of the oldest religions within Makadelos, the Sundown Faith is a disorganized, syncretic religion combining worship of Kaios, ancient Lukhoran sun worship, and Cyclopean Dualism. While some disparate rural communities of sapients in the region practice this faith, this religion is primarily practiced by Cyclopes living in and around the Aniketos Mountain Range. The Center of this cult being located in the highlands of the westernmost part of Makadelos has led to a special connection to the sunset, along with its association with the concept of death and rebirth. Some practices of this faith include animal sacrifice (some sapients believe the sacrifice of sapients is practiced, with dubious proof in support of this theory), ritualistic smoking of Kannabis, and sun-dedications (ritualistic blinding of oneself).
Cosmological Views
The faith, much like Cyclopean Dualism, worships the Sun and the Moon as opposing forces, destined to forever fight. While common cyclopean religion believes they chase each other, the Sundown Faith believes that each day the sun is killed by the moon and descends into the sea.
Political Influence & Intrigue
Three tribes of Cyclopes live in the region, simply put there is a Coastal Tribe, a Mountain Tribe, and a Highland Tribe. Within the Coastal and Mountain Tribes, adherence to this faith is of utmost importance, with the Wanakoi of the tribe being chosen by the tribe's high priest, and adherence to proper rituals and practices being a prerequisite to citizenship within their cities. The Highland Tribe is less concerned with religion, at least in political matters, though it still remains important in personal life. The religion has basically no influence on the politics and organizations of sapients.
