Bjornland

BJORNLAND

Founded by immigrants running from Angmark when it was invaded by the Aspirian Empire, Bjornland is nestled between Redwaters, Frost hills and a nearby evergreen forest. The town’s squat dwellings, adorned with carvings of dinosaurs and serpents, are overshadowed by the two-story structure of the mead hall, its eaves carved and painted to resemble wyverns. As honey is the key ingredient in mead, the town literally buzzes with the droning of bees.   Bjornland not only is the southmost city of the Finnar, but it also enjoys much warmer weather than it should. Most people think that it is because of the protection from the weather that the river the forest and the closeby hills provide, others think it is the Goti of the town, that uses her magic to ensure the bees provide all the honey they need to make the beer the Finnar are so fond of.   Every tavern in Finnarland is accustomed to receiving regular mead deliveries, and the town can’t produce or deliver its mead fast enough. Lately, though, it seems that all deliveries have halted temporarily for some unknown reason.   Bjornland was occupied by the Bear Clan about 25 years ago, instead of raiding it King Gamallbjarki Snjallrson  liked the mead they make there so much that decided to spare the town of the usual raiding and established a permanent Bear Clan population in the town.   Against all odds, the Bear Clan has established its ruling over Bjornland in the most pacific and profitable way. The Clan protects the town from the frequent raids much more efficiently than the locals did on their own, and if the rumors are to be believed the Goti they brought with them likes the mead so much that she used her magic to improve the honey production tenfold. The locals, in return, have gotten used to the Bear Clan, they are not greedy, they don't tax them more than they tax themselves and they are good neighbors if a little rowdy.

Bjornland in a Nutshell

Jarl:  None. Speaker Kendrick Rielsbarrow was killed by a monster, leaving the town leaderless. Sacrifice to Hellfrost: Warmth

Mead Hall

Purveyor of Bjornland’s honey wine
Three decades ago, this mead hall put an end to the town’s dependence on knucklehead trout fishing with its famous honey wine, which quickly became popular throughout Finnarland.
The mead hall has a large, fire-heated space dedicated to bee husbandry and the nurturing of beehives. The droning bees can be heard throughout the town, though most residents are so accustomed to the buzzing that they pay it no mind.

Shrine of the Flaming Sword

Shrine of Kenath, Lord of Volcanoes
This vacant building stands on the river and has a crow-haunted steeple protruding from its peak. Unlike the mead hall, which is well cared for, the shrine’s painted icons of the god of war wielding a flaming sword are chipped and faded, and its spacious interior stands mostly empty except for a long table.
The shrine was built over a century ago before the town was built by it. For a time thereafter, nearly all residents of Bjornland paid homage to Kenath, Lord of Volcanoes . Today, the shrine’s relevance has dwindled to the point where it’s mainly used just for town gatherings.
