Sangarholt

SANGARHOLT

Sangarholt, together with Neverfrost is one of the most insular and isolated towns of Finnarland. As with most Jotunn’s son’s towns, the residents aren’t too fond of visitors, but the strategic position it holds, in the middle of the western routes to their motherland and the western territories of the Thunor’s eye clan, has opened them to trade and commerce of goods and information.   The town is a small cluster of dwellings perched on the edge of the Redwaters river that is too small to support any meaningful industry other than trade. Ice has buckled the shorter of its two piers, rendering the dock unsafe. The longer pier has two icebound keelboats tethered to it, though they’re immobile because Rassilon’s winter has frozen the surface of the river for hundreds of yards around them.   Local fishers have hauled their smaller boats down the river or resorted to cutting holes in the ice to catch knucklehead trout, which they depend on for survival. Visitors to Sangar Holt are often struck by the eeriness of dark, humanoid shapes out on the ice, remaining silent and still as the wind howls around them.

Twenty Stones of Thruun

Triangle of megaliths
The only truly interesting feature in Sangar Holt is the ring of megaliths known as the Twenty Stones of Thruun. Standing at the southern edge of town, nineteen of these crudely fashioned granite menhirs are arranged in a rough triangle, with a single stone at the formation’s center. No one knows who built this structure or why; the townsfolk maintain that the stones were there when the town’s founder, a Half-Giant named Dougan Dubrace, first happened upon this fishing spot.   Scholars have tried to research the origin of the structure’s name, but all they have found are allusions to a creature named Thruun in the oldest legends of the northern folk. Some speculate that Thruun was a god, while others believe it’s a destructive elemental spirit bound to this location by ancient druidic magic.

One Eyed Willy's

Tavern and Inn
Willy (half-giant, Jotunn's Son), the one-eyed, cyclops-looking, half-giant owner of the tavern is the only game in town, and he knows it, but instead of taking advantage of it, Willy has made his tavern his pride and Joy.   The building, located right in the middle of town by the docks, is by far the largest building and best-maintained building in town. Willy has been expanding it over the years, adding rooms and wings to the already large building. Travelers are regaled with individual rooms and even suites with balconies. While neither the rooms nor the food and beverages are cheap, their quality far exceeds their price.   Willy is helped by his family: his wife (Hild), two daughters (Asla and Bera), and a son (Alrik)
