The Palisade

The Palisade is an area of tall hills and dense forests to the Southeast of Whitelake that serves as a natural barrier between the Northern Unclaimed lands controlled by the Finnar, the mountains to the East where Orcs and Giants thrive, and the southern kingdoms.  The hills of the Palisade rise sharply in the west in ever-increasing steps, making it difficult for giants and orcs from Giant’s Throne to launch any major invasion. Because of the risk of invasion and raids, and the cost that it would mean to maintain it, The Palisade has remained independent for the last couple of centuries. The western shores around the area where the two lakes meet are home to many small independent villages and steads. Watchtowers have been constructed on the higher slopes to warn of attacks. As the winters worsen and the giants grow bolder, a number of settlers are moving away just to be replaced by new arrivals running away from the conflicts to the south. Refugees are a constant sight on the road passing by Watchgap Fort.
