Gila Bend

Originally the Gila Ranch and later a station for the Butterfield Stage Line, Gila Bend continues to prosper. The highest point of the Gila River that is navigable by flatboats, it sits at the intersection of several well-travelled wagon trails.   The town boasts more stores, both general and specialty, than might be expected for its size. Despite the many travelers who pass through each week, the town is generally peaceful, largely because of the number of deputy marshals and the ban on bawdy houses.
