Peterman's Station

Built by the highly enterprising Joseph Peterman in advance of the original Butterfield stage, this station boasts two hundred acres of irrigated fields growing barley for feed. Now under the ownership of Sutherland, the station is well run and efficient, with spacious log buildings.   It's worth noting that the US Army refers to the station as Mohawk Station in official reports. This dates back to a personal disagreement between Peterman and James Henry Carleton, who commanded the California Column as it wended its way across the territory during the war.
