Stagecoach Stations
The stagecoach stations across Hell's Furnace were set up by the Butterfield Overland Mail Company in 1858. That company maintained them until 1861 and the declaration of "Confederate Arizona". After the war, the need for fast transit for mail and passengers returned and the stations have been operated by a number of different companies for the last decade. The stations are links in the chain between towns on the stage route. They provide safe harbors across the desert where water, food, and fresh horses and drivers can be found. Stations are also staffed with people who can repair wagons and tack, as well as providing care for horses.
