Phoenix
The birth of Phoenix arose from the settlement of the Salt River Valley as farmland in 1868. By December 1870, a town had been platted out and lots were offered for sale. When Maricopa County was created in February 1871, Phoenix was named the county seat. The first general store opened in July and the Central Methodist Church was built a few months later.
Presently, Phoenix is a booming town. The nature of its inhabitants might be gleaned from the statistic that there is one school, but sixteen saloons and four dance halls.
