San Pedro

Built adjacent to the ruins of the Spanish Presidio Santa Cruz de Terrenate along the San Pedro River, the town is a critical stop for the stage and wagon trade. With the long run to Cinega Station in the east, San Pedro represents an opportunity for fresh horses and a hot meal for travelers in both directions. It also is the connection point for traffic to the Rio Concepcíon in Sonora.   The local ranches provide an additional market for the town, allowing it to support two general and a few specialty stores. The Sweetwater Saloon gets rowdy on Saturday nights and it's a common joke that the Methodist church sits across the street in order to keep repentant souls from having to crawl too far on Sunday morning.
