Tumacacori
The Mission San José de Tumacácori is the last Franciscan mission in Hell's Furnace. It was founded in 1691, abandoned and rebuilt after the O'odham Rebellion of 1751, the friars were expelled by King Carlos III in 1768, and they returned again in 1828. At present, eight Capuchian friars reside at the mission, along with a small staff of lay people.
Outside of the mission is a village. Both the monks and villagers are Spanish speakers.
