Athena
Athena is an American superhero, was a member of a superhero team including Lionheart and Barricade for a time, and is currently the subject of national debate as she has determined to align herself with Indigenous American tribes, and broken her former ties to the US government. Some see this as an act of treason, others as a noble act of siding with the oppressed against the oppressors.
While Athena debuted as an A-class hero and was considered an S-class hero during most of the 1990s, during the latter half of the 2000s her designation was increased to SS-class. It is unknown if this was always her power level and she concealed it to give her a strategic advantage, if this increase was a result of a flowering of her abilities, if this was the result of intensive training, or if she is simply so strategic in her application of her powers that even though her powers have not grown significantly she nevertheless is able to continue to win against more powerful opponents. The answer is likely a mix of the four.
Athena is the only member of the original Defenders team to have never, to public knowledge, lost a fight.
