Lord Protector
The city of Neverwinter has its own unique title for its not-king who rules the city and surrounding area. While technically a lordship, the Lord Protector for all intents and purposes serves as the political and military leader of Neverwinter. And like most other "king-like" positions, they are hereditary or changed by the sword.
