The Red Feast, Fête des démons

On the nights of the Seles Apogee, whenever the red moon threatens to eclipse the silver and bathe the world in red, the people of Glernor often celebrate with a feast where they traditionally spend the entire night eating sweet; often red, dishes. The event is known as the Red Feast in the common tongue and Fête des démons in Lanpais.   The Seles Apogee is the point in which the Silver moon is the furthest from the world with Pandom slipping between it and Heroda in their endless twisting dance through the heavens. This celestial event happens every other month and has been associated with poor fortune and terrible events in history. It is said that the veil between the Mortal Sphereand those beyond. The feast is meant to create cheer and enjoyment, to "remove the negative" so to speak from the world and keep devils, plagues and other evils at bay. The tradition has spread to other parts of the Azure Federation though the cultural significance of the feast is often lost.    In more urban settings the Red Feast is an excuse for an enjoyable party, in the halls of the rich the event turns into extravagant masquerade balls with attendees often wearing masks reminiscent of devils, demons and monsters and cavorting in red draped rooms. Young masked nobles will take their festivities to the streets, terrorizing and entertaining the lower classes in equal measure.    In the more parts of the Glernorian Plains, the feast has a much darker and superstitious tone. Families gather in a common room with the feast laid out and tell jokes and stories in such a way that there is always laughter to be heard. The more Pandom seems to array itself in front of Seles, the more manic and strident the feast becomes as the need for their to be good cheer and laughter constantly becomes more pressing. Most often, Pandom does not pass in front of Seles at times there will be partial eclipses, causing the superstitious reactions to rise among the populace.    A full eclipse has not happened in living memory but the stories of what happens during that time would set the more superstitious folk into a fevered pitch.
