Book Handling License

To obtain a book handling License one must pay a nominal fee and complete an open book test. An applicant must agree to uphold the below tenants regarding books. The penalty for failing to uphold any of the tenants can result in any number of consequences; to be administered by another holder of a Laststar Book Handling Licence.

Tenets

  • To never subject a book to an environment with greater than 60% relative humidity.
  • To never subject a book to an environment with greater than 60Âșc temperature.
  • To never subject a book to an environment with greater than 60db of noise.
  • To never damage a book using acid, bludgeoning, cold, fire, force, lightning, necrotic, piercing, poison, psychic, radiant, slashing, or thunder damage.
  • To never soil a book with solids, liquids or gasses (including, but not limited to bodily material, food, drink and literal dirt).
  • To never willing entrust someone with a book who would not uphold the above tenants.


  • The consequences for breaking these tenets are as follows:

  • A firm look.
  • A tutting.
  • A finger wag.
  • A hurmph or scoff.
  • The abrupt and disgruntled packing up or assembled study materials followed up with swift and silent egress (somewhat moderate door closing permitted in large study halls and outside gates).
  • An offered hand (as to indicated that the mishandled book should be handed over).
  • A polite ask to halt the breaking of the tenet(s)
  • Furtive whispers to another Holder while indicating to the tenant breaker.
  • And in dire circumstances that warrant it, a quiet wail followed by fainting with the telegraphed indication that the tenant breaker was the cause of the episode(pointing at the breaker is recommended).
  • In the most egregious cases of damaging, harming or destroying books the perpetrator may be referred to the regular court system.
