Fireweed
While Fireweed is a real wildflower, it has properties in the HCU that don't exist in our world, which this article will focus on.
Fireweed is a common wild flower found in north america and some parts of Europe. It is most known for its ability to colonize an area after a wildfire, but it has another, lesser known claim to fame. Fireweed is one of many plants denoted in the writings of an antonyms american elemental mage as 'magically significant- many uses'. The rest of this mage's notes have not yet surfaced, but later research has confirmed that fireweed has some latent magic similar to other elemental components.
Due to a lack of ORG funding and a lesser need to understand elemental magic after the enamist movement died out in the late 2000s, no further research was done on fireweed until the enamist revival in the early 2020s. During this new wave of research, it was discovered that combining the fireweed with earth aligned elemental components could repel fire and fire magic based spells, even in the absence of a water component. Consumption of fireweed under certain conditions is also now know to grant brief immunity to fire and heat stroke, and research is on going on its application in reversing burn damage.
With these discoveries, fireweed is quickly becoming a highly prized commodity. Governments are rushing to make regulations for its use and harvesting, in order to protect this important species and also prevent immoral usage. As the news spreads, various groups have started building fire weed farms for a variety of purposes. As the weaponization of fireweed is not yet explored, many are concern as to what will emerge in the coming decades.
