Cha'ari Lever Cannon

The Weer'wiik ("Screaming Gun"), colloquially called a Cha'ari Lever Cannon, is a short-barreled lever action repeating rifle engineered for use by Cha'ari hunters. While notoriously unreliable and inaccurate, they have remained popular both due to their ease of use and their ease of maintenance, as it takes relatively little training to operate and repair one even with the relatively ungainly talons of the Cha'ari. It's name is deriven from the shrieking wail it's shots make when the weapon fires or ricochets.

Construction

A weer'wiik consists of a long, thick stock typically made of a lacquered, reinforced wood, an oversized receiver and loading port with a large, reinforced lever, and a short, wide barrel. The tubular magazine holds a maximum of three rounds, and a fourth in the chamber. The short barrel helps keep the weapon's profile as small as possible to allow it to be drawn and stowed rapidly with minimal risk of accidentally hitting the ground for a low-flying user, at the cost of the weapon's accuracy.

Use

The weapon fires full-bore slugs, which have a respectable stopping power on the occassions where they hit their target. Hunters who carry one typically keep it as a backup for their much more reliable bows, or for emergency cases where greater stopping power becomes a necessity. Cha'ari soldiers have also used weer'wiiks in hit-and-run tactics, using their advantage of flight to get close enough to their target that the weapon's inaccuracy becomes irrelevant. Cha'ari who favor firearms will typically put in the effort to learn how to use more dextrous weapons. It is rare to see anyone but a Cha'ari using a weer'wiik, as the benefits to its construction for Cha'ari make it awkward and ungainly for use with hands.
