The Labs

The scientifically minded citizens may very well find themselves in the Erras Das laboratories, a collection of buildings scattered throughout the city. Though on the outside they look no different from the surrounding homes, businesses, and the like, on the inside they house some most advanced technologies outside of Ra’s control on all of Venus. Using the foundations that the builders left behind, the scientists of Erras Das have created wonders and oddities alike.   Pragmatically, the labs spend a great deal on the issue of keeping the city mobile and sustainable. The legs used to propel the city are developed, cast, and sent off for installation in these labs. Using a series of elevators and platforms, the legs are sent to be installed at a moment's notice. Unfortunately, the city can not stop to install a replacement, as that would cause the city to stop once every few hours, and as such it can be quite dangerous to the mechanic in charge of installing the leg.   In order to cut down on the dangers of maintaining the city, as well as defending it, one of the principal concerns of the laboratories is automaton technologies. While great strides have been made, the production of autonomous robots has been largely unsuccessful. They end up being impractical because of the cost of production and maintenance or breaking down far too soon. As this has been increasingly frustrating to the city, the Assembly is currently considering a proposition to allow the laboratories to examine the inner workings of the Numen in order to gain technological insights.   Aside from their functions deemed essential by the Assembly, the workers of the labs are free to pursue whatever scientific inclinations they may have. Throughout the labs you can find scientists working on a variety of things from magical-technological fusions to weaponry to reverse engineering Atlantean artifacts. Given that the labs have no director and instead report directly back to the Assembly, the researchers are free to work without any direct oversight. However, that does not stop colleagues from judging that researchers work as useless, or worse, dangerous.   Given the large body of studies and experiments that take place in Erras Das, it is not uncommon for scientists to send out teams to procure materials for their research purposes. These teams are the only common visitors to Erras Das, with some even being given the few precious vehicles that the city has, if the job calls for it. While they can of course pay in coin, smart procurement teams work for weapons and items developed in the labs.
