"Light and Airy, this gentle thread wafts effortlessly on the breeze, but it's strong as rope I tell ya'!" - A Dwarven Silk Farmer
Properties
Material Characteristics
Soft white in color, with a faint blue shine, this silken thread can be woven into fine fabric. Once processed from its natural form, it can be made into a soft, light weight but very resilient cloth.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Soft and almost sticky to the touch, in its raw natural form it resembles spiderweb.
Once Processed it becomes a durable and lightweight silk, durable, and with a naturally stain resistant shine.
Origin & Source
This fabulous silk is produced by the Dreem, a large, docile caterpillar native to the south of the Grande Rocc, along the Palm Coast.
History & Usage
History
First utilized and harvested by the native peoples of the Palm Coast, it's secrets were later shared with settlers from Lu Ven and other lands.
Everyday use
Often used in silken fibers, both for clothes as well as strong silken rope.
Cultural Significance and Usage
Being a useful and trade able commodity, this fabric is prized by the native peoples of the Palm coast. It was also exported to the Hi-No Hitobito some 100 years ago, and the silk has become an integral part of their culture.
Industrial Use
While great for fabric and rope, it has also been used extensively for Sails on ocean going vessels, and for roofing or tent materials in warmer parts of the world.
Refinement
The natural fibers of this silk can be treated with a 48 hour salt-water wash, and scrubbed gently along the fiberin order to remove the natural stickiness, and condense it into a usable thread or string.
Due to it's naturally stain resistant properties, dyeing the fabric is a difficult and time intensive process. Correctly washing, dyeing and seting of the intended color takes 2-3 months of repeated treating. This process drastically increases the cost of dyed silks.
