In the Early days of the Second Dynasty, the Al'Kemri empire resorted to Necromancy, Sorcery, and slavery to rule their lands with an iron fist.

Years of rapid expansion and military actions had left the first Dynasty of the Al'Kemri stretched thin. And with the death of their first Emperor, a new Dynastic family, a Human family, came to power. This family set precedent for the use of Necromancy to bolster the workforce and military, allowing the empire to continue expanding with limited personnel being sent to do menial tasks.   With this 'advancement', the empire was able to continue its expansion and it's many different border conflicts, risking fewer living troops. Because Necromancy was not practiced to this extent elsewhere in the world, the enemies and neighbors of the Al'Kemri soon came to associate the empire with the shambling dead, and were from then on known in many lands as 'The Dead Kings'.
