Basic Information
Anatomy
Dragonshifters are characterized by their ability to shift between a Draconic form and a Humanoid form.
Draconic Form
In their Draconic form, Dragonshifters appear as quadrupedal Dragons. Their hands are clawed, with three fingers and a thumb. Dragonshifters are notable for being smaller than most other varieties of Dragonfolk. Their colouration can range from reds to blues to greens, with oranges and yellows being rare, however they are never metallic unlike some other Draconic species.Humanoid Form
In their Humanoid form, Dragonshifters appear much the same as other humanoids in terms of body structure. However, there are distinct differences that make Dragonshifters immediately identifiable. Their bodies are accented with soft scales, particularly around the cheeks and along the caps of their shoulders. They also possess vibrant jewel-toned catlike eyes with vertical pupils. Their ears are pointed, but set at a wider angle than Elves or Nymphs, resembling an inverted right angle triangle.Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Dragonshifters possess remarkable sensory abilities. Perhaps their most notable feature is their exceptional eyesight and keen night vision, allowing them to navigate and perceive details across long distances or in low-light conditions with unparalleled clarity. In darkness, their eyes adjust rapidly, adapting to minimal light and revealing the world in a spectrum of shadows.
Beyond their keen sight, Dragonshifters exhibit a heightened sensitivity to magical energies. They can perceive magical auras and areas, distinguishing between enchantments, illusions, and other mystical phenomena. This unique ability makes them invaluable in identifying magical artifacts or detecting the presence of concealed magical beings.
In their Draconic form in particular, they can detect vibrations in the air and ground, alerting them to approaching danger or hidden passages. Sense of smell, already acute, is even further heightened in their draconic form, and allows them to detect scents over vast distances. This heightened awareness enhances their survival instincts and aids in their keen fit as guardians and protectors.
Civilization and Culture
Culture and Cultural Heritage
The cultural practices of Dragonshifters are diverse, perhaps influenced by their dual nature, but focus primarily on their Draconic ancestry over their Shifter nature. Primarily chosing to live within Draconic society, they participate in traditional Draconic ceremonies and rituals, looking to The Facets for guidance and embracing their shared ancestry with other, larger dragonkin.
Many keep meticulous records of their lineage, tracing their ancestry far back beyond the Recorded Era to claim descent from notable Dragons. The passing down of draconic oral tales and traditions is a common practice, fostering a sense of unity and shared history among Dragonshifter communities. Some Dragonshifters have become legendary figures, their stories passed down through generations as symbols of unity and strength.
