CW: innuendos I guess
In the makarid culture, particular importance is given to the memory of the draconic ancestry of the clan and individual. Most clan have specific items and rituals through which this is insured.
In the makarid clan of Aessus, the preservation and transmission of family trees lore to the younger generations is accomplished through the elaborate carving of wooden walking sticks.
The Clan, who has their ancestral home in the depths of Kithanda's most ancient forest, forages for suitable fallen branches of the XXX tree all year 'round. The branches are then and stripped of all the external bark and secondary branches and leaves and kept in dry and cool caves to preserve them until the time of use.
The branches used need to have particular catacteristics to be picked as future walking sticks: they need to be between one and one half meters tall, have a thickness between 6cm and 4cm for the whole lenght and be relatively straight, with an axis well balanced to support the user without encoumbering them or adding too much weight.
The branches stay in storage for a variable time, up to several years, until they are needed for the record of the names rituals. During the preparation of the item, the Miyik artisan alternately polishes the wood and oils it with fragrant essences and carves the names of the family ancestors all along the lenght of the branch.
The resulting items are highly shiny sticks of a pleasant russet colour with darker inscriptions that cover their lenght in patterns reminiscent of the makarids' skin markings, down to the metal protected tip.The head of the staff is sometimes covered too, to be held at the pommel, but other artisans prefer to create a smooth grip at a comfortable height for the intended wielder.
