Qirama Mountain
The Qirama mountain is an active volcano that rises in the middle of Bada Island, overlooking Qirama Bay, close to the village of Gend.
With Garisti and Larama mountains, it forms the volcanic chain that gave origin to Bada Island. It is one of the most active volcanoes in Hislayia, almost constantly releasing lava from one of its two northeastern craters, and slowly shaping the adjacent coast and the Rama Peninsula.
Its fertile soil supports the agriculture in the region, in particular fruit orchards, and the volcanic debris enriches the sea at the entrance of Qirama Bay, making that sea strip particularly rich in fish.
History and Mythology
I bet you are not brave enough to enter the Dragon's portal!According to the myths, Qirama Mountain is the location of the lair of Makahar, the dragon from which the Makarid originated. In particular, some researchers individuated the ruins of a portal on the southwestern slope as the entrance to Makahar lairs. Unfortunately, a collapse of the wall 200 meters from the portal and the close vicinity to the caldera made it so far impossible to explore the caves further and confirm the claim but, from the exploration of this entrance, it seems clear that it was indeed the nesting ground of a dragon or several ones.
Volcanic activity
My love burns like the heart of QiramaCurrently, most of the volcanic activity is concentrated in the two main craters at the summit and it consists usually in explosive events with sprays of lava and smoke. The lava from these eruptions rarely threatens the village as these craters face the opposite flank and their emissions are channeled into the site of an ancient collapse and landslide. Some flank eruptions happen frequently from a number of smaller craters on the slopes, some of which are not wider than an apple, others are a few tens of meters across. One such craters is located not far from the Hottest Spices, and the secondary vent that feeds it is the same that warms the water of the apothecary baths and heating system. The lateral eruptions are usually nonexplosive and consist of lava or vapor slowly flowing from the vent. Some of these lava flows occasionally reach the village but the inhabitants learnt to predict the direction of the flow and dug a series of canals to direct it away from the houses and into the sea.
