The homework was to list 10 articles but I can't single out one for most of the people who inspired me during December (and all the rest of the months, and not only in my worldbuilding), so I grouped them thematically and by author instead. Below are 10 authors whose work never cease to inspire me and push me to get better in my writing, and 10 of the best friends one can hope to find in life.
In the order I found them in my notifications and reading list:
Naelin
I can't hide how much I love Nae's species' articles. Both his societarians species and the simple species articles are concisely informative and make great use of his art to convey part of the informations.
While I am in no way as talented an artist as him, I want to at least steal his idea of the mini map to illustrate the distribution of the species in the world.
Looking at them brings me back to the animals encyclopedia I spent days over as a child.
Finish the maps for Hislariya and Phaldoriya (and S'ard?) and insert a mini map in all relevant articles.
I've been thinking about using an in world point of view for my articles for a very long time, but always found it daunting. The way Naelin approached this is simple and effective and makes me want to give it another try.
Write an article for Amaya Loyola, the in world carthographer for Phaldoriya.
Write a few articles from the POV of Hislariya protagonists.
TJ
I always tend to worldbuild snowflake way and the big conventional customs end up to be overlooked. TJ did such a brilliant and charmingly detailed job in his calendar, common language and numerical and money system. He will forgive me if I am my usual choosy trash panda and use them as a blueprint to not get lost in creating mine ;)
Create a calendar/language/currency system for at least one of my worlds.
Stormbril
I consider this article another of Stormbril masterpieces. The narration of the event is synthetic yet compelling and the quotes are perfectly chosen to flash out the voices of the protagonists. I will use it as a reminder to continue adding meaningful and powerful quotes that can bring my characters to life and also of the possibility to link pages in sequence to make a long article more readable.
Up my quotes game and try the sequence of pages.
Melu
Melu's witty quotes always bring to life their articles and they are another example I will try to follow in adding in world quotes to my articles. But this article in particular caught my eyes for the joyful depiction of this shameless celebrations. A needed reminder that we can have our fun and don't need to always behave and play the safe game.
Put more spice in my articles. It's what I promised to my readers, after all.
SolarCat
Another needed reminder from SolarCat. She wrote many amazing words this past month, but the ones that hit the strongest were from this spur of a moment little letter. A reminder to be kind to ourselves and that "your needs are important, and your wants hold just as much value as everyone else's".
Don't let the opinions of other people or their dismissiveness about my pleasures and values hold me back. I matter and what I write matter and there are people who want more of it and I don't have to let the voices of the ones who don't like it deprive me and my supporters of the stories they are waiting for.
Dani
I believe me and Dani are slowly developing hive (naughty) mind, because we keep working at the same time on similar ideas. I can't lie and tell my Therapists have not been a little influenced by the first draft of Bond with Benefits she let me read. But only after I read these two articles I realized how much the mood was converging (to think that at first I claimed to not be a fan of the concept, what a fool!).
Keep letting Dani's wholesome smutty brainwaves reach me and inspire more stories.
Cato
Conditions are an important part of the core concept of Hislaryia and I love the details and variety Cato put in her conditions this past WE. I will surely get back to them for inspiration whenever I need to make my characters suffer a little more.
Write more conditions for the therapists to cure.
Evan
I am always at unease when I have to write the history of my worlds because it seems too vast a topic to tackle. I love the tone Evan used in this article and how he kept it on topic and organic.
Try to write a few historical articles in my world. The tone Evan used can be an inspiration in particular for the history of the Otadan, S'ard prehistory and the old age of the dragons in Hislariya.
Luca
This is maybe a bit of a cheat because I'm coauthor of the world, but Luca did a great job with the ethnicities of Phaldoryia and I love how he structured them and I am hyped to rework mine into the same frame <3
Rewrite the Otadan articles to follow the same framework of the other ethnicities of Phaldoryia.
Ynar
BONUS! This one wasn't eligible for WE, but Ynarkael wrote this beautiful article for me when I was feeling a little down, and I want to save it to remind me that I have friends who appreciate me and support me always.
Remember you are loved!
And I also want to take inspiration from them to try my hand at some poetry in my articles and to give a more serious attempt at conlanging.
Aww thanks for adding me despite not being eligible :3 Also happy to inspire you to do poetry n conlangs too! Join the cult
I will try to. I get lost pretty easily when I try to conlang and bite more than I can chew :P
