Graia Campaign: In Real Life

As Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade's development faltered, ELWP sought alternative 40K games to play as a gaming community.   The Graia campaign saw a heavy focus on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, whereby the community took part in weekly challenges consisting of cooperative tasks - all of which contributed towards an overall campaign progression bar.   The community's successes and failures would be weaved into the ongoing narrative and determine whether the campaign would conclude in victory or defeat.

History

Graia Besieged

Following countless attempted Ork invasions and system-border skirmishes with scouting tendrils of hive fleet Kraken, Graia was in a weakened state prior to Dakkamog Worldsploda's arrival. The ork warboss seized upon this opportunity and directed his sizable ork waaaagh towards the Graian system.   Some time after, the orks eventually made planetfall - it was at this moment that the distant Epsilon Battalion received instructions from Inquisitor Garlos Keralix to intervene and save Graia from the ork hordes.

The Green Tide

Waaagh Worldploda deployed in typical ork fashion - drowning the foe in a tide of violence without end.   It is unknown how the orks managed to breach through the planet's impressive orbital defenses, but theories suggest that Dakkamog Worldsploda a had effectively used screening units along with the knowledge that Graian ammunition for its defence platforms was already perilously low from previous conflicts.   Once in low orbit, the orks rained down attack roks which swiftly began to overwhelm the already beleaguered Graian forces.

Arrival of the Sons of Dorn

Responding to the distress call, the Epsilon fleet translated into system not long after the invasion had began. Using the ork's focus on the ground war to their advantage, the Epsilon fleet successfully deployed its marine strike force via drop pod assault to the surface.

Attritional Warfare

The twisted ruins of destroyed manufactorums and industrial buildings made for difficult fighting for any would-be invader. The defending forces used this to their advantage and inflicted astonishingly disproportionate casualties - war raged on Graia on all fronts, with frequent raids by massive ork warhosts inching ever-closer to hearts of Adeptus Mechanicus strongholds, only to be beaten off by counter-attacking Epsilon Battalion strike teams.   The conflict seemed to be at a stalemate.

A Dark Plot Revealed - Laochan Gate

As the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Epsilon Battalion engaged Dakkamog Worldsploda personally among the ruins of destroyed manufactorums, what should have been a fight to decide the fate of Graia was interrupted by the emergence of warp storms on the belleagured world;   Chaos forces descended upon Graia from two fronts; at the very moment that Laochan Gate opened and revealed its true purpose, Arkon Kel along with several Alpha Legion battleships appeared in orbit around Graia, who quickly engaged the Epsilon fleet.   Chaos ground forces deployed via Laochan Gate itself, pouring out of it in vast, unchecked hordes of daemons, mutants and traitor space marines.   Subsequently, loyalist forces and the Worldsplodaz broke off their attacks from one another in order to meet the new chaos threat.

The Storming of Laochan Gate

The conflict was eventually brought to an end when the Epsilon Battalion alongside supporting Adeptus Mechanicus forces committed to an all-out assault of the heart of the daemonic incursion on Graia - Laochan Gate.   At the threshhold of the gate, Dekra Akalius engaged in personal combat with Arkon Kel, distracting the Harrowmaster long enough for battle brother Threir to land a precise bolter shot upon a cultist that was critical to the peformance of a ritual sustaining the gate's empyric energies.   The gate subsequently collapsed and an imperial victory was swiftly secured, but Arkon Kel's remains were never recovered and his is presumed to be still at large in the galaxy.
