Southwood

Creatively named after it's location at the southern edge of the pathway through the Emerald Divide. Southwood was established by merchants wanting to connect Ryulthier by land and it has grown drastically as demand for travel through the Emerald Divide has increased. It has become a city built on its lumber and mining industries, as it slowly expands further and further into the forest with little regard for the natives.

Government

The city is ruled by a handful of merchant families which established the town. Each of the families rules one of the city districts, but they share some expenses and profits; such as taxes from using the pass through the Emerald Divide, funding the city guard, etc.

Defences

Walls, watch towers, a large standing militia

Industry & Trade

Lumber, metal, gems, safe passage

Infrastructure

Districts

Celcin district is the northernmost district, hosting many lumber mills, watch towers, and campsites for caravans. It is well equipped to handle travellers exiting and entering the Emerald Divide and is well defended in the case of raids from the people who live within the forest. Lumberjacks, merchants, and many inns and taverns call this district home.   Longhorn district is full of large market squares where caravans can peddle their wares and people can stock up before heading onto the trail, or even browse the wide array of goods that are made locally and gathered from all over Rulthyier. A large percentage of the population lives here, as homes cluster as close to the market squares as possible.   Rayven district is where the miners call home, distinct by the smokestacks from blacksmiths and refineries continually processing ore into weapons, armour, and tools. The mines are out of town, so the Rayven family has regular convoys that bring workers too and from the mines each day.   Yaev district was once a populated district of training fields, barracks, and foreign embassies, but the Yaev family has fallen on hard times, and haven't been able to fund the people of this district. Now days it is a slums, where the poor live and work.

Guilds and Factions

The guilds within the city are the four ruling merchant families, each extending their influence within their district and providing their people opportunities, jobs, and support.
